Why Rent-to-Own Forklift Rental Is Taking South Africa by Storm

In South Africa’s fast-paced industrial and warehousing sectors, businesses are constantly seeking cost-effective, flexible solutions to meet their material handling needs. Enter rent-to-own forklift rental—a game-changing option that’s rapidly gaining traction across the country.  If you are not sure how long you will need your forklift, try rent to buy, if you end up renting for a prolonged time, you can buy the forklift at a reduced price.

With companies like Supreme Forklift Services leading the charge, offering comprehensive service plans and a unique six-month payment window for major repairs, it’s no wonder this model is taking South Africa by storm.  Traditionally companies would rent a forklift for years on a full-time lease, but for some businesses, they prefer to rent the same forklift, and are not looking for 100% uptime that is offered by traditional full maintenance leasing.

What Is Rent-to-Own Forklift Rental?  Rent-to-own forklift rental combines the flexibility of renting with the long-term benefits of ownership. Instead of committing to a hefty upfront purchase or ongoing rental fees without equity, businesses can rent a forklift with the option to own it after a set period—typically five years.  Supreme Forklift Services has created a leading rent to buy product which incorporates fleet management and a service plan.  All forklifts come with a guarantee, but after that period, Supreme have come up with an innovative 6 months to pay workshop offering. This model is designed to make high-quality material handling equipment accessible to all businesses, even those that don’t yet have the required financial muscle to get bank finance or pay cash.

Why Rent-to-Own forklift rental Is Booming in South Africa.

All South African businesses, from small startups to large logistics firms, face budget constraints and fluctuating demands. Rent-to-own forklifts offer a middle ground between renting and buying, allowing companies to manage cash flow effectively. With no massive upfront cost, businesses can access top-quality forklifts while spreading payments over time. The added perk from Supreme Forklift Services—six months to pay for major repairs—further reduces financial pressure.

How does Rent to Own Forklift Rental Work?

When you rent to buy a forklift, you pay an initial deposit, usually about R20,000.  Thereafter you sign up a debit order and pay on a monthly rental on the forklift, which includes insurance, your chosen Supreme service plan and Supreme warrantee.  The price of a rent to buy is usually cheaper than a normal rental as after the service plan expires, you would need to pay on an adhoc basis for services and repairs.  At any time during your rental, you can request a buy out price for your forklift, which is the price at which you can buy out your forklift.  Alternatively, you can return your forklift at anytime, at which stage it will be valued and you will be paid out the value of the forklift less, the amount owing on your rent to buy.  If the forklift is worth less than what you owe, you will not be required to pay the shortfall.  At the end of the 60 months you will typically pay only R10,000 for the forklift.
