Just the idea that your car may break down while on a long journey is daunting. You can however take precautions that may prevent this, that does require time and money but will assist you in making sure that your car is in tip-top condition. Here are three helpful tips:

Check the Car’s vitals

Is the tyre pressure and tread adequate? In the morning, once you have reversed your car from its overnight parking position, check the floor for any liquid spills that may be caused by an oil or water leak. Check that all the lights are working, including the hazards.  Can the wiper blades provide clear vision if it rains? Is the spare tyre in good working condition and when applying the brake, do the brakes respond immediately? These are the essentials to check before driving a long distance.

Take it in for a Service

One way to be sure that your car will get you from point A to B without breaking down, is to book it in for a service shortly before you are due to leave. Ask the service manager to complete a full quality check on your vehicle and get all the maintenance requirements, repaired. This will ensure that your vehicle is in good working condition and that any existing issues are repaired, before they potentially become bigger, and more expensive repairs in the future. It will also give you one less thing to worry about leading up to your journey.

Check All Fluids

Check the car’s oil, radiator, windscreen, power steering and brake fluid. Many of these fluids are quite easy to check. If you do need assistance, pop into a reputable vehicle repair workshop to get expert advice.
