December holiday is around the corner and you undoubtedly have a few summer road trips planned. Regardless of whether you are planning to make a 200 km or 2 000 km journey, you need to make sure your car is in tip-top condition so you are not left on the side of the road in the heat.

  • Battery

When you are going on a summer vacation, the last thing you want is a dead battery. It is very quick and easy to have your battery checked and ensure it is in good condition. If it is not, replace the battery before you hit the road.

  • Lights

Make sure that all your car lights are working, namely the breaklights, taillights, headlights, high beams and license plate lights, especially if you intend driving in the dark.

  • Wheels

Check that your car wheels are pumped correctly according to the manufacturers recommendations.  If your tyres contain too much air, on hot days the air inside a tyre expands creating more pressure and potentially a burst tyre. The last thing you need is a burst tyre when you are on your way to your holiday destination.  An underfilled tyre creates a lot of drag, which leads to your vehicle using more petrol than it would if it was pumped to the correct PSI.  Look on the tyre itself for the proper tyre pressure and tyre load.

  • Fluids

Check fluids such as engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid. Other items that need to be checked include belts, hoses and windscreen wipers.
